Three numbers decide this page. SEO for painters: 320 searches a month, difficulty 2 out of 100. Painter plus suburb: steady volume in every metro. Sites ranking for either: directories and franchise groups with a template page per city. That is the gap.
We measured demand across every trade OCD works with, and painting came out as the softest organic market of the lot. The business-side term is close to uncontested. On the customer side, house painters plus city, painters plus suburb, exterior painting plus suburb and interior painters plus suburb carry real volume with weak competition, because most painting businesses have a one-page site or none, and the pages that rank belong to hipages, Oneflare and the franchise groups.
A franchise's suburb page is the same page with a different suburb name. A real painting business with a real page for that suburb, with photos of a house in that suburb and the paint system named, out-ranks it. Google has spent a decade learning to tell the two apart.
Interior painting, exterior painting, roof painting, commercial and strata, heritage or repaints if that is your niche. Each with your photos, a from-price per room or per square metre, the paint systems you use, how long the job takes and how you protect the house while you work. These rank for the service plus city terms.
For the areas you work in, tiered by distance from your base and by real search volume. Each written from the housing stock in the suburb (weatherboard and heritage in one, rendered brick in the next, new estates with builder-grade paint after the third one) so the copy stops making sense if you swap the suburb name. That test is what separates a page that ranks from one Google filters as a template. One Sydney plumbing client runs 191 of these built this way.
Before and after pairs with the suburb, the job type and the paint system in the caption and the alt text. A gallery organised this way ranks in image search and feeds the suburb pages; a wall of unlabelled photos does neither.
Category set to painter, services listed, service area set, photos uploaded monthly, a review request that goes out when the final coat dries. For most painters the map pack is the biggest single source of organic calls.
Schema with your licence number where your state issues one, speed, mobile layout, and organic calls and forms tracked separately from ads so you know what the content produces.
Map pack movement in one to two months from the profile work. Service pages ranking in three to six. Suburb coverage in six to twelve. Painting is seasonal, so the pages should be live before spring; a site that launches in November has missed the exterior peak. The ads come first: Google Ads and a Meta before-and-after campaign carry the lead flow from day one while the organic side builds behind them; both are covered on marketing for painters, the page this one sits under. Month to month, no lock-in.
Trades and service businesses, mostly. The discipline is the same for industrial: find the searches that convert, own them, and stop paying for the rest.
Same service, other trades: SEO for roofers, plumber SEO and SEO for electricians.
Service plus city (house painters, exterior painting, interior painters, roof painting plus your city), painter plus the suburbs you work in, and the questions people search before they call: how much does it cost to paint a house, how much to paint a room, how long does exterior paint last. We pull the list with volumes for your area on the first call.
One to two months for the map pack, three to six for service pages, six to twelve for broad suburb coverage. The low competition means painters often see movement faster than other trades, but the seasonal peak sets the deadline: be live before spring.
If you want painter plus suburb searches, yes. The pages have to be real, built from the housing stock and your own jobs in each suburb, or Google treats them as a template and they do not rank. Done properly they are the cheapest leads a painter can get.
Both, ads first. Ads bring the calls for the seasonal peaks and the job types you want more of this month. SEO backs them up, and in this trade it is unusually cheap to win because the competition is so thin. Most painters run both.
SEO starts from $750 a month. Flat monthly fee quoted on the first call, no lock-in. Judge it against one extra exterior repaint a month; that usually covers it several times over.
Twenty minutes.
Send a quick note. We'll get back same day, usually within an hour. No automated replies, no sales sequence, just Garo.
We only work with one business per trade in each area, so we're not sending your leads to the bloke down the road. Two minutes, a few honest questions, and you'll know where you stand. If we're a fit, you'll book a call straight away. If we're not, you'll still walk away with your numbers and what to do next.
